Money & payments

Lebanon’s monetary environment can change. The Lebanese pound (LBP) and US dollars are both widely discussed in daily life, but acceptance, rates and card availability vary by business. Banque du Liban is the primary official source for monetary information. We do not publish a static exchange rate as permanent guidance.

Currency and rates

Distinguish between official rates, market rates and the rate a specific business uses. Always ask which currency and rate will apply before you pay. For ATM context at the airport, see the Banking page under Airport Guide. Any numeric rate shown on this site will carry a verification date or come from a live verified source.

Cash and cards

Cash remains important in many everyday situations. Card acceptance is not universal — do not assume cards work everywhere. Carry a backup payment method and keep cash secure. Tip practices vary; ask locally when unsure.

ATMs and banking

ATMs operate inside the airport terminal subject to operational conditions. Fees, limits and displayed rates can change without notice. Review the screen carefully before confirming a withdrawal. See Airport Guide → Banking for more detail.

Budget planning

Build flexibility into your budget. Confirm prices for hotels, restaurants and transport at the time of booking or purchase. Economic conditions can change, so treat older price lists with caution.
